Spiritual Direction:

Spiritual direction is a deep listening and witnessing to spiritual life, in a one-on-one trusting and confidential relationship. As a spiritual director, I tend to the relationship between you and the Divine (god, spirit, universe, nature, All that Is, etc) and accompany you in weaving together the many sacred threads of your life.

Spiritual direction sessions tend to look differently depending on each unique individual and their spiritual needs that day.

A session may include: reflective silence, feelings processing, spiritual practices, somatic connection, creative practice, exploration of intuition, passion, and more.

I welcome clients from any faith tradition or spiritual identity, as long as they come with a desire to explore the spiritual aspects of their life.

In spiritual care sessions, I enjoy working with:

people committed to care, justice, and liberation work who are trying to take good care of themselves

  • Silhouette of a dog in a dog bone shape with a dotted pattern. Maggie Stang is a queer neurodivergent therapist and spiritual caretaker living in Tacoma, Washington who provides Gender Affirming Care.

queer people looking to deepen or reimagine their spirituality and reclaim spiritual/religious practice

any person yearning for deep listening and witnessing

For many, religion has been a source of deep pain. For others, it has been a place of belonging and meaning making. Some folks, like myself, have experienced both pain and belonging in religious spaces.

Typically, spiritual direction sessions happen once a month. They can be in person, via video call, phone call, or a walk/sit in the park. Spiritual direction is available to people in any location, as long as they can access video calls or phone calls.

What’s the difference between spiritual direction and therapy?

The purpose of spiritual direction is to attend to a person’s spiritual needs. Unlike therapy, spiritual direction does not necessarily include goal setting, treatment plans, or diagnosis. Spiritual direction is often helpful alongside mental health therapy if you are experiencing significant mental health challenges. Spiritual direction could be a good fit if you are currently not needing therapy, but would benefit from spiritually focused accompaniment.
